Amir Khan Mottaqi, the foreign minister of the Taliban group, today (Monday, May 22), on the anniversary of the death of Mullah Akhtar Mansour in Kabul, said: “we seriously request the Iranian authorities to use the agreement of 1351 as the basis of their judgment about water rights.”
Mottaqi said about the problem between Iran and Afghanistan that the Taliban authorities are committed to the agreement of 1351 and the current drought in the region and Afghanistan should not be overlooked and the government Iran must judge according to the 1351 agreement.
In addition to expressing the water shortage problems in Nimroz and Sistan and Baluchistan, he requested the Iranian government not to politicize the issue.
In the past week, Iranian officials have made various comments regarding Iran’s water rights.
The Taliban officials also released a statement saying that the comments of the Iranian officials were detrimental to both governments.
