The medal-winning taekwondo athlete from Afghanistan, Rohullah Nikpa, announced on Facebook that the New Zealand Taekwondo Federation had appointed him to coach the nation’s national taekwondo team.
Mr. Nikpa continued, “I like to bring my team to the highest level of their ability by using the skills I have.”
These discussions took place while Mr. Nikpa fled to New Zealand following the fall of the former regime and is now living there.
Mr. Nikpa earned bronze medals at the Olympics in both Beijing and London. Nikpa is the first and only Afghanistani athlete to win an Olympic medal.
