On Wednesday 31st May, local sources in Parwan reported that the Taliban had created a committee to deal with media violations in Parwan.
Hekmatullah Shamim, the spokesperson of the Taliban governor in Parwan, confirmed that this committee was created and started operating under the control of the Department of Information and culture of this province.
Mr. Shamim added that the representatives of Parwan province, the command of security, intelligence, and the department for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice are amongst the members of this committee.
According to Mr. Shamim, it has been decided in this committee that the media should not have publications contrary to Islamic Sharia and religion and should not publish and broadcast music.
The sources, who did not want to be named, said that by creating such a committee, the Taliban are trying to limit the media and events that are detrimental to the Taliban will not be covered by the media.
Immediately after capturing Kabul, the Taliban created new laws to restrict the media. Besides, they arrest journalists and media officials.
