On Saturday, June 3, it was reported that a 13-year-old teenager hanged himself in Bamiyan province.
The teenager, Elias, was living in the third district of Bamiyan city. According to the sources, the cause of his suicide is still unknown, however, there is excessive pressure from the families and the Taliban on children, women, girls, and teenagers.
This event occurred while at least 213 people have committed suicide in the past year for various reasons.
There were 110 men and 103 women who committed suicide in 28 provinces of Afghanistan. This statistic covers the data from April 21, 2022 until May 21, 2023.
Based on the statistics provided by the Etliaat Roz newspaper, 38 suicide cases were recorded in Faryab province, 20 suicide cases in Ghor province, 14 suicide cases in Kapisa province, and one case each in Panjshir, Samangan and Khost provinces.
According to the statistics provided by this newspaper, nearly 80% of the people who committed suicide were under 20 years old and the rest were older.
Psychologists and sociologists say that the causes of the most suicides in Afghanistan are severe depression, unemployment, disillusionment with society, Taliban pressures and excessive restrictions.
