The trial of Afghan journalist Kobra Hassani and a number of other Afghan immigrants will take place soon, according to the Russian publication Lenizdat in St. Petersburg.
This decision is to be announced soon in a court in the city of St. Petersburg for Kobra Hassani’s illegal entry into Russia, the newspaper wrote. This decision is made in accordance with the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and based on it, it entails six years of imprisonment and then deportation from Russia.
Kobra Hassani left Afghanistan after the Taliban took power, this newspaper added. After residing in Ukraine for a while, she made the decision to leave for the European Union when the conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out. But according to Hassani’s attorney, the Russian smugglers tricked her and the others into travelling to Russia.
Kobra Hassani has worked for Afghan television channels and the American companies National Radio and Television and Afghanistan Television.
Kobra Hassani also had a restaurant in Kabul.
Lawyer Maria Belyaeva says that Kobra should not return to Afghanistan under any circumstances. Most likely, she will be killed there.
