A number of nursery teachers said in a video that the Taliban had removed all female teachers from nurseries.
One of these teachers stated that she is the family’s main earner and that the Taliban has now fired her.
“I worked for 35 years and paid taxes,” she said, “but now the Taliban forbids me from working or receiving a pension.”
Since taking control, the Taliban has imposed several restrictions on Afghanistani women.
Women in Afghanistan are forbidden the right to an education, to work, and even to travel without the presence of a mahram*.
In the most recent instance, on Tuesday of last week, the Taliban’s leader issued an order closing all women’s hair salons. Female hairdressers will be unable to work as of the 25th of this month, according to this order.
* Mahram, According to Islamic jurisprudence, refers to a person with whom marriage is prohibited because of their close blood relationship, because of radaa’ah (breastfeeding), or because of being related by marriage.
