The Taliban have announced that the Jam minaret is in danger of falling and that this group has no ability to protect it or prevent its collapse.
The head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department for Ghor province said that the reconstruction of this minaret is beyond the power of this group, and if international organisations do not pay attention, the Jam minaret will not be able to withstand natural disasters any more and will fall.
The 800-year-old Jam Minaret in Ghor Province is the second-tallest clay minaret in the world after the Kotb Minaret in India.
This octagonal minaret with a height of 64 metres was registered as a world cultural heritage site with UNESCO in 2022.
While the Taliban are avoiding the preservation and maintenance of this ancient building under the excuse of a lack of funds, on March 11, 2001, when the Taliban entered Afghanistan, Mullah Omar, the former leader of the Taliban group, ordered the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha.
