The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says that the violent repression of women’s peaceful protest is concerning
Today (Wednesday, July 19), UNAMA wrote in a tweet that the reports of violent suppression of women’s peaceful protest against the ban on beauty salons are deeply concerning.
This international organization added that Afghanistani citizens have the right to express their beliefs without violence and “the actual authorities must maintain this”.
This morning, a number of female hairstylists started a street protest in response to the closure of their beautysalons, which were severely suppressed by Taliban fighters using aerial shots.
The protests of these protesting women were scattered while one of the protestors told VOC News that some of them were arrested by the Taliban and some of them were injured.
