Following protests in the media and online, as well as the intervention of religious leaders in the city of Pul Khumri, Nusrat Parsa has reported that the local Taliban have asserted that the punishment of stoning Qadria and Atiq has been suspended.
In his statement, he claimed that “a number of Taliban officials are trying to announce that this story is a lie and no one has been sentenced to stoning.”
He added that the Taliban might do this secretly if we do not pursue our lawsuit.
According to reports that have been published, two young individuals named Qadria and Atiq were supposed to be stoned in front of the community of Pul-Khumri today after Friday prayer for engaging in an illegal relationship.
Human rights activists and others started the hashtag “Stop the stoning of these two young people” in response to this problem. In an attempt to stop the Taliban from carrying out this order, these campaigners urged the UN and human rights organisations to intervene.
