According to reports from local sources, women without a burqa are punished in Herat province. The citizens of this province said that if a woman goes out of her house without a burqa, she will be severely reprimanded by the Taliban fighters and sometimes punished with a whip.
The people of Herat province said that Taliban fighters stop drivers’ cars at various stations and take women who are without burqas out of cars.
They added that if a woman is without a burqa, the Taliban will beat the driver and humiliate, insult, and torture the woman.
These strictures took place after the leader of the Taliban group, Mulla Hibatullah Akhundzada, announced in a decree that no woman has the right to appear in public without a burqa.
