The Taliban have ordered the closure of an art centre known as the “Behzad Art Gallery” in Herat as part of their enforcement of moral standards.
Mohammad Ibrahim Habibi, the head of the Behzad Art Gallery, told reporters that the Taliban closed down the center due to the participation of two girls in the calligraphy class, considering it a violation of their rules.
According to Habibi, these two girls were learning calligraphy under his supervision.
He added that the Behzad Art Gallery is the largest academic art centre in Afghanistan, with a history spanning forty years.
According to Habibi, this centre has provided significant services in the field of Islamic art.
Jalil Ahmad Tawana, the head of the Calligraphers’ Association in Herat Province, also confirmed the closure of the “Behzad Art Gallery.
