Arezoo Ahmadi, a Hazara athlete who defeated her three strong opponents in competitions in Karachi, Pakistan in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA and won the gold medal, was arrested on her way to Islamabad by Pakistan police forces and taken to the police headquarters, on Tuesday 6th June.
Ms. Ahmadi told VOC News that she was not aware of the reason for her arrest. She added that she was arrested by the Pakistan police even though she had the documents of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees or “UNHCR”.
Ms. Ahmadi expressed her concern and said that it was unknown what the Pakistan’s police would do to her and where her fate would lead.
Since the Taliban came to power, most of the Afghanistan athletes are living abroad.
