Imee Marcos, head of the Philippine Senate Relations Committee, said that if the Philippines accepts Afghanistani immigrants temporarily, the security of the country will be jeopardised.
Ms. Marcos added that the United States should reconsider the temporary settlement of Afghanistani immigrants in the Philippines and transfer them to another place.
She also stated that the Philippines’ arms are always open to immigrants and that the country is working hard to provide the required facilities and services to immigrants. But the problem is that these Afghanistani immigrants are not immigrants; they are members of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, which pose a threat to Philippine security. These are Ms.’s words.
Ms. Marcos’ statements came after it was announced that the US would temporarily settle qualified Afghanistani immigrants in the Philippines before transferring them to the US.
