Before attending the meeting of European foreign ministers on Thursday (20 July), EU foreign policy official Josep Borrell called Russia’s termination of the grain contract a “barbaric attitude.”
He emphasised his concern over the situation, adding that this action will not only result in human casualties but will also destroy grain storage facilities in Ukraine, resulting in a serious food crisis.
Borrell, referring to the closing of the Black Sea grain transfer route, stated that with the closure of the sea route, we must now seek alternative grain transfer routes. This task needs greater effort, resources, and a higher budget.
He stated that this would be one of the most critical problems discussed at the meeting of EU foreign ministers.
After the Kremlin stopped the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain across the country, the route for the grain to be shipped by sea has been shut down.
