Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, has stated in a released statement that the United Nations’ claim regarding the existence of ISIS and other terrorist groups in Afghanistan is baseless. The statement, which was made available on Saturday, August 26 through Zabihullah Mujahid’s associated X platform address, asserted that the claim of the UN about the presence of ISIS and 20 other terrorist groups in Afghanistan lacks a foundation.
The statement reads: In the past year, ISIS activities in Afghanistan have reached zero. An international organisation that disseminates such unsubstantiated and negative propaganda cannot provide any evidence for it, thus undermining the credibility of this organisation.
The statement emphasises that all these claims are unfounded: Once again, we reject these baseless accusations and call for transparency in such matters.
The Taliban has emphasised that over the past two years, their security forces have conducted “hundreds of continuous operations” against illegal arms and ISIS, resulting in the collection of weapons and the “destruction” of ISIS’s operational capabilities.
Earlier, the United Nations stated in a report that the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan and the presence of 20 terrorist groups in the country would pose greater challenges to the nation. Meanwhile, these statements are being made by the Taliban as a group in power in Afghanistan, while the United Nations’ Counter-Terrorism Office, in its report, has stated that ISIS’s ability to carry out operations and armed attacks has increased.
