The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) announced on Tuesday, August 29, that it has signed an agreement with the Iranian government to provide skill training and nursing conditions for Afghanistani women and girls who are currently residing in Iran.
Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations, stated in a press conference that this agreement was signed with Iranian authorities on Monday, August 28.
Dujarric added that providing education for Afghanistani women residing in Iran is aimed at empowering Afghanistani women.
According to Dujarric, the initiative is led by the UN Population Fund. He further added that this effort is in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the International Organization for Migration, to address the needs of Afghan refugees residing in Iran.
After the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021, hundreds of thousands of former employees, military personnel, civil activists, artists, and others who felt their lives were in danger fled Afghanistan to neighboring countries, especially Iran and Pakistan.
