Following the visit of a number of Pakistani and Arab scholars under the title of “British religious scholars” to Afghanistan, a group of Afghanistani human rights activists asked the British government in a letter not to allow Pakistani and Arab scholars to whitewash the Taliban.
About 50 human rights activists have emphasised in an open letter that was published on Sunday, September 3, that after the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, people under the name of “British clerics” spread widespread propaganda for “whitewashing”. “Taliban actions” have been carried out.
In this letter, these activists claimed that most of the British religious scholars who had travelled to Kabul were Pakistani and Arab and had travelled to Afghanistan with the support of the Taliban to “propaganda and whitewash” this group.
It is stated in this letter: During their trip to Afghanistan, these people met with a number of senior officials of the Taliban, all of whom were involved in widespread violence in Afghanistan and are on the UN sanctions list.
In this letter, signed by human rights activists, university professors, journalists, writers, diplomats, and civil society activists, the British authorities are asked to end the “campaign of propaganda and misinformation” of these people and their organisations.
It should be mentioned that in July this year, a number of British “religious scholars” travelled to Kabul and met and talked with senior officials of the Taliban, especially the Minister of Public Affairs of this group.
The Ministry of Public Affairs of the Taliban said in a newsletter about the purpose of the British religious scholars’ trip: They want to see the image of the Islamic system in Afghanistan.
Due to the fact that the Taliban were not recognised, they are trying to gain the satisfaction of people under the name of Ulama in Western countries so that they can lobby for the recognition of this group at the world level.
This is despite the fact that on Friday, September 1, a delegation from the Council of Islamic Scholars travelled to Afghanistan and met with the officials of the Taliban group in a bilateral conference in Kabul.
