An Iranian woman named Kolsum has been accused of serial killings in Iran. Kolsum would render her temporary husbands unconscious and then kill them by poisoning their drinks. She would then take their dowries, often consisting of property and land, and register everything in her daughter’s name.
It is reported that all of Kolsum’s husbands were elderly, and the first murder occurred in 1392 (the solar calendar year).
The Origin of the Story:
Kolsum got married for the first time when she was only eleven years old. She became a mother to a son who later died due to a heart condition. Several years later, her first husband also passed away. She was a resident of the villages near Sari, Iran.
After the death of her first husband, Kolsum married another man and had a daughter from this marriage, who now leads an independent life. Over the years, Kolsum continued to marry repeatedly, and each time, her husbands would die for various reasons. She has been married to 13 men, and seven of them have died at her hands.
How Kolsum’s Secret Was Revealed:
The last husband of this woman was an 82-year-old man whom she had married in Mahmoudabad with a dowry of 500 million Iranian rials. A few days before his death, he told his son that Kolsum was forcefully giving him medication for high blood pressure and heart problems. It is said that to prevent their fathers from taking further medication, the sons reported the matter to the police, and Kolsum was arrested. It was revealed that she had committed more murders. One of the reasons Kolsum was able to carry out these killings was the advanced age of her victims.
Since the families of the victims believed that their deaths were due to natural causes given their old age, Kolsum’s grudge against men dates back to her childhood, when she was married off at the age of 11. She was a child bride.
