Sources tell VOC News that yesterday (Tuesday, May 16, 2023) a military exercise is scheduled to be held at the residence of Mullah Hebatullah, the leader of the Taliban group, in Kandahar.
As stated by the sources from Kandahar, the purpose of this exercise is to counter possible attacks on the leader of the Taliban.
According to the operational plan of this maneuver, special forces to protect the Taliban leader, special units of the army and the police of this province will be attending. It is said that Mullah Hebatullah resides in the former residence of Mullah Omar and two other places, one in the center and the other in the suburbs of Daman city, near the airport. This military exercise is carried out in all three places.
The source adds, this operation is designed to repel any type of ground and air military attack, including drones. Besides, In some parts of the city of Kandahar and its surroundings, additional efforts and security patrol has been assigned.
Based on the available information, the senior officer of the Ministry of Interior, who was trained by international forces and was appointed as the person in charge of the training of Mullah Haibatullah’s security forces during the Taliban period, was excluded from this exercise and was not allowed to attend.
Security experts believe that the implementation of this maneuver, in addition to its theatricality, shows the depth of fear and security concern among the Taliban. The possibility of internal conflict and power struggle among this group has increased.
