Volker Turk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, believes that the Taliban have crushed the souls of Afghanistani women and girls with their misogynistic actions and behaviour.
Today (Wednesday, May 24, 2023), Turk stated in the press conference in Geneva that the Taliban will only make Afghanistan more wounded, helpless, and poorer by discrimination against women.
He added that the Taliban’s discriminatory policies, sexist behaviour, and misogynistic decisions reduce the ground for growth and development to a point of zero and ultimately bring Afghanistan to the collapse.
The reaction of Mr. Turk takes place when international institutions have said that the Taliban are pushing Afghanistan towards extremism and radicalisation by restricting women.
Michael McCall, the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, asked the Biden administration to impose the most severe sanctions against the Taliban in order to control this situation.
