Zalmai Khalilzad, the former representative of the United States for the reconciliation of Afghanistan, has said in a tweet that it is wise for Mullah Hibatullah, the leader of the Taliban, to heed Wali Shah Bahra’s advice.
In this tweet yesterday, Friday, July 24, he defended the remarks of Wali Shah Bahra, the former head of information and culture of Herat province, regarding reopening the doors of girls’ schools.
Wali Shah Bahra is a poet, author, and one of the influential local leaders in Herat province who spoke about the undeniable role of Herati women in his speech in the presence of Taliban officials.
Meanwhile, Dawood Munir, a university lecturer and head of the Herat Literary Association, in his speech in the presence of Taliban officials, criticised the two-year suspension of shutting girls’ schools and said, “How long will this suspension last?”
These criticisms are made while it has been nearly two years since the Taliban shut the doors of schools and universities to girls and women.
