According to Tashkent media sources, Ismatullah Irgashyev, the President of Uzbekistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan affairs, and Bermek Pejvak, a senior project coordinator with the US Institute of Peace (USIP), addressed the situation in Afghanistan yesterday in Tashkent.
Mr. Pejvak stated at the meeting that Uzbekistan’s efforts to achieve long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan, as well as offer humanitarian relief, are admirable.
Pejvak also emphasised the development of an international negotiating institution under the supervision of the United Nations and stated that in order to resolve the political conflict in Afghanistan, a trans-regional organisation must be formed to adequately manage the prevailing issue.
