Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, political deputy of the Taliban’s foreign ministry, said in an interview with Tolo TV that a number of people in Afghanistan do not want to study.
In response to the question of why girls’ schools are not opened, Stankzai answered, “There are some areas where we have not been able to build schools for 104 years because the people in those areas don’t want to study. In this case, we have to consider their desires as well.”
Experts say that Mr. Stankzai wants to generalise the situation of a handful to the entire Afghanistan society and deprive a large segment of the society of the blessings of literacy and education.
It should be mentioned that Mr. Stanikzai made such statements in a gathering not long ago and said that some people do not want to study. He also said, “We are trying to solve this issue with the people through dialogue.”
Ever since they came to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have closed the gates of schools to girls above the 6th grade by issuing a decree and saying that they are considering a special and Islamic mechanism to open schools for girls above the 6th grade. But until now, more than two years after the Taliban decree, the gates of schools have not been opened for girls above the sixth grade.
