Thousands of former Afghanistani National Security Forces (ANSF) members who fought in Afghanistan with the support of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and were subsequently relocated to the United States are now facing legal challenges in the US.
ABC News has reported that the work authorization for 10,000 to 12,000 members of the “Zero Units” will expire in the coming days or weeks.
These units were primarily engaged in providing security for CIA officers in Afghanistan, who were transferred to the US following the fall of the Afghanistan government to the Taliban in August 2021.
According to ABC News, their two-year work permission is now coming to an end, causing concern among these individuals that losing their work permission could result in financial difficulties for their families and even jeopardize their chances of obtaining a green card.
The American news network further reported that these former Afghanistani National Security Force members have appealed to the US Congress to rescue them from this “limbo.”
