Matt Mahmoudi, Amnesty International’s researcher and consultant on artificial intelligence and human rights, has said in response to the Taliban’s decision to install 62,000 security cameras in Kabul and other areas that the installation of security cameras is a continuation of the group’s oppressive policies.
This news, which was published on Thursday, August 31, on the Amnesty International website, is quoted by Mr. Mahmoudi as saying that the implementation of such a surveillance programme on the people under the title of “national security” violates the fundamental rights of the people of Afghanistan, especially women in public places.
Matt Mahmoudi, expressing his concern about the installation of security cameras in Kabul and other areas, said that if this strict surveillance structure is installed and implemented, privacy, public gatherings, and freedom of speech, which have been under unprecedented attack since the Taliban came to power, will be destroyed. The group is violated more severely than before.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior of the Taliban has published a video in the media and said that they have installed 62,000 security cameras all over Kabul to “ensure security”.
