According to reports from the Taliban news agency and the Traffic Department, published on Monday, September 3, this group has mandated that private cars operating as taxis in cities must obtain permits from the Traffic Department; otherwise, they will be stopped.
The Taliban news agency has stated that the Public Traffic Police Chief, in a newsletter, has called upon citizens who use their personal vehicles as taxis on city streets and in the surrounding areas to obtain taxi permits.
According to this newsletter, cars from the “1995” model and below will be directed to low-traffic areas, cars from the “1995” model and above will be directed to city roads, and cars from the “2000” model and above will be directed to the Green Square taxi area in Kabul.
The Taliban Traffic Department issued this order while some drivers of private cars used for passenger transportation claim that working with personal cars is out of necessity as they currently lack the ability to obtain taxis.
In less than two years, the Taliban has generated substantial revenue from various channels.
Some time ago, a number of taxi drivers also complained about the exorbitant taxes imposed by the Taliban on taxi cars.
